The Dominant Power of Sin
Scripture reading: Romans 7:14-25
Worship song: Sin Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Meditation:
Paul reveals to us in Romans chapter 7, the power of sin. He
tried to do good, but each time he tried, sin took dominance. Paul says that
God has already set him free from the law of sin and death (8:1). The fact that
he received and accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord, he is no longer condemned.
The smallest of our sins is costly—far more costly than any of us have ever
imagined. Satan's greatest snare to any of us is a permanent detachment from
God because of our sins. Satan sets the bait and hopes we will fall for it.
When Jesus gave his life for the sake of sinners, the power of sin was
defeated. Though we have sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23),
when we accept the gift of God's grace, we experience God's glory as if we had
never sinned. With all our scars, with all that is wrong with us, with all the
terrible consequences our sin has laid upon us, God still wants us. There is no
sin too great that He won’t pardon. He knows all we have done, the sins we have
committed intentionally or unintentionally. There is nothing we can hide from
Him. The choices that we make will determine our destination. Jesus said, He
has gone to prepare a place for us, and He is waiting for us to join Him on
resurrection day. How many of us are willing to let go of earthly pleasures and
desires, repent and confess our sins, and let God have His way in our lives?
Let's pray:
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, we have sinned against
you through our deeds, words, and thoughts. Please forgive us, Abba Father. We
have chosen to follow the path of unrighteousness instead of following and
obeying the Holy Spirit. Almighty God, we desire to turn away from the
pleasures and desires of the spirit of the flesh. Forgive us of all our sins
and iniquities, and purify our hearts, O God. We desire to be holy, set apart
for you, Master, and we are ready to do Your will. Father, please release us
from the bondage of sin, from the stronghold of the enemy, and help us to obey
your commands and teachings and live by your principles. Jehovah God, we cannot
do this on our own except you abide in us. Almighty God, we are relying on You
to lead, direct, and give us the courage to fulfill this desire. Mighty God,
the heart is willing, but the flesh is a hindrance, so we ask you to control
our desires, Almighty God, and fill us with your Holy Spirit through Jesus
Christ, our soon-coming King. Amen.
Peace & Love. ✌💞
