Refuge In the Lord
Good morning Scripture reading: Psalm 46 Worship song: Hide Me Now Meditation: In Joshua chapter twenty, there were six cities designated as cities of refuge for those accused of accidental manslaughter without evidence of hatred. Individuals facing such accusations could flee to one of these cities, finding safety and protection from the avenger of blood. However, the accuser would face the death penalty if caught before reaching one of the cities of refuge, or if he left the safety before the death of the reigning priest and before the verdict of the trial. These cities of refuge can somewhat be compared to the opportunities and privileges that sinners have to find refuge and shelter in Jesus Christ. We can seek refuge in Christ, where we can escape the wrath of God, the penalty for sin, and the dangers and destruction that are to come.
