Emptying The Vessel
Good morning Scripture reading: Jonah 1:1-6 Worship song: Heavy Load Meditation: The mariners sailing to Tarshish made a desperate attempt to safeguard their crew by executing damage-control strategies to prevent the ship from taking on water or sinking. However, their frantic attempts to lighten the vessel were unsuccessful in calming the raging storm, as the sudden tempest was a divine intervention entirely beyond their control. They invoked their gods, but when their false gods failed to respond, they confidently turned to the God of Israel, hoping He would show mercy and save their lives. Like ancient sailors, we often exhaust all options before finally seeking Jesus, the Omniscient and powerful problem solver. When tragedy strikes, we frequently realize too late that we have placed our trust in modern idols that lack the power to help us.
