The Greatest Commandment
Good morning Scripture reading: St. Matthew 22:36-40 Worship song: Give Me A Heart Like Thine Meditation: While Jesus was teaching, a mischievous Pharisee lawyer tempted him, asking which commandment was greatest. Jesus responded by telling him the first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and second, to love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus emphasizes that these two commandments take priority, serving as the foundational pillars upon which the entire law and the prophets depend. We must honor God with our highest devotion and treat our neighbors with love. If we say we love God but hate our fellow human, we are dishonest, and God’s love has not been perfected in us.
