Getting Too Comfortable

Scripture reading: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

Hymn: The Comforter Has Come

Meditation:

Being comfortable means to be in a state of physical or mental comfort; contented and undisturbed. There are two ways we can be comfortable: physically and spiritually. We can be physically comfortable because we are in a position where there is no financial lack or terminal illnesses, and our lifestyle pleases us. We can be spiritually comfortable because we are connected to the source that supplies all our needs. Being in a state of comfort depends on who or what makes us comfortable. We can become so comfortable in our sinful state that we do not recognize there is a higher power that governs us. We can be so comfortable basking in our earthly possessions that we do not have time to seek the Lord, our creator. We can become complacent and so overly content with our lifestyle choices that we do not realize that we have wandered from the flock. We can drift so far from God that we do not recognize the pit we have dug for our souls. When we are comfortable in our sinful state, we do not regard or acknowledge God the creator. When we are too comfortable doing what pleases us, it causes us to slowly drift from the presence of Almighty God. What makes you comfortable? If you are comfortable in your sinful state, you are on board a ship that is heading down a dangerous path. You can find comfort in Jesus Christ, the father of mercies and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our tribulations.

Let us pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, God of all comfort who comforts us in all tribulations, the God who can comfort us in all situations, I glorify you because you are worthy to be praised. Father, we are reassured this morning that only in you can we find true and lasting comfort, and so, Lord God, we trade our worldly comfort for your everlasting comfort. Almighty God, we sacrifice all our earthly possessions, and we lay them at the altar so we can find contentment. Lord, we walk away from our lifestyle of sin so we can enjoy the peace and serenity of you, our faithful God. Almighty God, I pray that our spiritually blinded eyes will be open so we can see the deceptive work of the enemy behind the scenes and the sin that captivated us. Almighty God, unveil us and robe us by your grace as we now give you thanks for the comforter, the Holy Spirit, which you have sent to teach us all things through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Have a great day. Keep safe.🩷
