Outward Appearance

Good morning

Scripture reading: 1 Samuels 16:1-13

Praise song: O Lift Your Countenance

Meditation:

The English idiom 'Never Judge a Book by Its Cover' implies that one should not make a final judgment on anything based only on outward appearance. The story narrated in the above scripture gives a clear insight into what it means to judge by outer appearance. The prophet Samuel gazed upon seven of Jesse's sons and was satisfied with their masculinity and countenance, thinking they fit the profile of a king, but the Lord made it known to Samuel that the qualities He seeks are internal and not external. The Lord looks at the heart and not the outward physique. Following the Lord's command, Samuel sent for David, who was out in the field tending to the flock, anointed him with oil, and appointed him as the King of Israel. Look not upon another man's countenance because redeeming love has set apart the worst of mankind to be rewarded for the Saviour's passion. Jesus Christ, through his infinite love and wisdom, has selected some of the worst to be the best. Therefore, judge, not the outward appearance but look for what is internally hidden from the physical eyes.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, the God who can see the hidden depths of our hearts, who sees beyond outward appearance, I glory and honor you, O Lord. Father, I pray that as we stand before you this morning, O God, whatever is hidden in the secret chambers of our hearts will be a required asset for us to be appointed and not rejected. Father, I pray that our outward physique is in alignment with our inward countenance. Almighty God, may we seek to please and honor you in every aspect of our lives, to live an exemplary Christ-like life that glorifies you, mighty God. Lord, grant us the willpower to stand firm, live by your precepts and commands, and walk according to your will in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.

Have a blessed and peaceful day. 💕🙏

  1. It is often at first sight that many mistakenly make decisions without full knowledge of the situation.
Life is ever a learning experience but from experience one should lessen the enormity of any such mistake. God is always bringing out the best in us while others with limited vision can only see the worst in us. Let us stay true to our God given abilities so His best gifts in us will be realized. Stay strong and have a bless day.
