The Door Was Closed
Scripture reading: St. Luke 13:23-28
Song: If You Only Know The Blessings
Meditation:
Misplacing the key to your apartment/home can be frustrating
and a surge of panic. I recently experienced what it feels like to be locked on
the outside. As we approached the door and dipped in the bag to retrieve the
key, there was no key; we were locked out with no way to get inside. I did not
have my key and was relying on the other person to open the door, but
unfortunately, she could not find it. Weary and tired, we stood waiting for
assistance while hoping for a miracle. Finally, help arrived, and we were able
to get inside. As I reflect on the day we were locked out, I think about the
vast number of people who have locked God out of their lives. He is knocking
and wants to come into your heart, but you will not let him in. Jesus is
saying, Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open
the door, I will come in and dine with you, and vice versa. Anyone who grants
Jesus Christ access into their heart and accepts Him as their Lord and Saviour
will receive the right to become children of God. God's relentless love,
faithfulness, mercy, and grace are available to all people. Jesus standing at
the door and knocking is a demonstration of His passionate heart for the lost,
for the one who turned away, and for those who neglect to welcome his presence.
If Jesus is knocking at your door, will you open your heart and let him in?
Though Jesus has the master key, he will not enter unless you invite him
in.
Let us pray:
Almighty God, with a surrendered and submitted heart, I cry
out to you, O God, to have mercy on those who have exempted you from their
lives. Many, O God, have hardened their hearts and closed the entrance door,
but I pray, Almighty God, that as they hear your voice, whether through prayer,
your word, or that small, still voice, they will respond promptly, unlock the
door, and grant you access to their heart. Everlasting Father, I pray that
those who have shut you out will repent and bid you to enter so you can
forgive, redeem, and bring restoration and salvation to them. Almighty God, I
pray you to hasten them to open the door to their hearts and allow you to come
in and dine. Father of a second chance, I bid you to enter like a mighty
rushing wind and blow away doubts, fear, anxiety, and unbelief and replace them
with rivers of grace and healing. Replace stony hearts with hearts of flesh
that yearn for righteousness and holiness. Father, I pray that hearts will melt
like wax, and many will open wide the door and welcome you to dwell with them
through the prompting and unction of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ.
Amen. (Child of the King).
