Follow Me
Good morning
Scripture reading: Luke 9:23-27
Worship song: Let Me Lose Myself
Meditation:
If we decide to be Jesus's disciples, to be his followers, we must commit ourselves to and be completely dedicated to following his teachings and his way of life. Denying oneself is essential in the life of every follower of Jesus Christ. We must decrease so God can take precedence over us. His will is first and foremost in every circumstance, especially when hardship and tribulations arise. Denying ourselves to follow Christ means we have to denounce our desires, the glamour, and the glitter of this world that entice us and pledge allegiance to Him. Denying oneself for Christ is to give up your wants to receive his. It means surrendering the natural man, your carnal ways, by crucifying your fleshly desires and bringing them under God's subjection. When we daily deny self and crucify the flesh, we grow stronger, our faith is strengthened, and we will become more Christlike.
Not only should
we deny ourselves, but we should willingly lay down our lives for the sake of
Christ. Jesus said if we are willing to lose our life for his sake, we will
gain life. Jesus does not ask us to give up living but to accept a newness and
fullness of life that only He can give. It profits us nothing if we gravitate
to the things of this world. We must be willing to sacrifice our time, rights,
position, comfort, reputation, privileges, and even our very lives for the sake
of Christ so we can receive life everlasting.
Let us pray:
Everlasting Father, the giver and sustainer of life, let me
lose myself and find it, Lord, in you. Father, there is nothing in this world
that can satisfy me except I abide in your will, so Lord, kill my fleshly
desires and help me to seek after your righteousness. Lord, I want to sacrifice
the desires that are not in line with your will so I can have access to the
Tree of Life. Lord, I want to deny myself all worldly pleasures so I can be
worthy in your sight. Father, remove far from me vanity, wantonness,
unrighteous desires, self-indulgence, and worldly gain so I can focus my
attention on you. Everything that I have clung to, the appearance of glamour
and glitter that appeases the eyes, and the things that prevent me from giving
my all to you, I am willing to deny for the sake of Christ. Lord, I denounce my
selfish desires and pledge allegiance to you so I can receive newness and
fullness of life that only you can give through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Peace and love.✌💕
