Expectation vs. Reality
Good morning
Scripture reading: Matthew 11:1-10
Worship song: Expectations
Expectations can be the source of both frustration and disappointment. Our expectations most times do not happen the way we anticipated them. Often, we set high expectations in our relationships, our roles as parents, our jobs, and even in our spiritual lives only to find that reality does not always match our expectations. What we anticipate will happen and what actually occurs can lead to disappointment, but it can also bring unexpected joy when reality exceeds our expectations.
Consider John the Baptist, who prophesied about the coming Messiah and about his mighty works and miracles, but when he heard that the wondrous works had begun, he still questioned whether someone else was coming. This illustrates how our expectations can sometimes cloud our perception of reality. Human expectations often clash with God's divine plan.
The Bible encourages us to place our
hope and trust in God's promises, rather than relying solely on our own
expectations. God's fulfillment of his promises happens according to his perfect
plans, not our limited expectations. For I know the thoughts that I think
toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an
expected end. Our expectations are not reality, so let us unwaveringly rely on
God's strength and trust his guiding hand.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, your name and your wondrous work are excellent in all the earth. Lord, amidst chaos, disappointment, and our expectations, we trust your divine plan for our lives. Lord, you are our way maker, the truth, and the light; all our help comes from you. Fulfill your promises, O God, according to your divine plans for us. We acknowledge that your plans far exceed our expectations, and your intentions are to prosper us and not to harm us. Lord God, we have many thoughts and future plans; we submit to your divine purpose above all else. Abba Father, we choose to gladly walk in obedience to you by following your precepts so we can enjoy the unmerited blessings you have provided. I declare that all things work together for our good according to your purpose in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Have a lovely day. 💕🙏
Your devotions are so touching. They must be done in a quiet place. They are so impacting. It says a lot about you. There is a river that flows from deep within you. Unfortunately some people do not take time to discover it. Continue your work, one day what is hidden will be revealed. Have a wonderful day and keep doing God's work. 🙏🙏
