The Poor Will Always Be Among Us
Good morning
Scripture reading: Deuteronomy 15:7-11
Worship song: God of the Poor
Meditation:
In Deuteronomy 15:11, we are reminded with clarity that the poor will always be among us. God commands us to extend favor to our brothers, to the poor, and to those in need. It, therefore, means that as dedicated followers of Christ, it is our responsibility to act with compassion and generosity towards the less fortunate. We must not only share our resources but also advocate for their needs. We are to actively seek ways to help them and to be mindful of their struggles. God has an unwavering concern for the poor, and therefore, He emphasizes the importance of upholding justice and showing mercy.
Psalms 41:1 tells us that those who consider the poor are blessed. Jesus aligns himself with the poor and vulnerable, and treating them with kindness, compassion, and justice is a direct service to him. Proverbs 19:17 reinforces that kindness to the poor is considered lending to the Lord, which will not be overlooked. God promises to repay you for your kindness. Galatians 2:10 reminds us to remember the poor. Proverbs 28:27 emphasizes the vital importance of love and compassion.
By showing compassion and care for the needy, you not only do
what is right but also what benefits your prosperity and well-being. The Lord
promised that those who share their resources with the poor will be blessed and
they will not experience lack. Proverbs 14 asserts that those who oppress the
poor disrespect God, the Creator of all people. Proverbs 21:13 warns us that
anyone who ignores the cries of the poor when they are faced with adversity and
cry for help, their cries will go unanswered.
Let us pray:
Compassionate, all-knowing God, we give you thanks for bringing to our attention what is required of us in assisting the poor. Father, I pray we will apply the knowledge we acquire through your spoken word and help the poor and vulnerable through wisdom. May we, O God, apply these teachings not because of the benefits and rewards but because it is the right thing for us to do. Almighty God, help us exercise the love of Christ, showing compassion, kindness, and mercy to the less fortunate. May we, O God, attentively listen to the cries of the poor in times of need so that when we are crying, it will not fall on deaf ears. Father God, maximize our resources to accommodate the poor and needy in every way possible in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Have a peaceful day. ✌💖🙏
While we and others find ourselves at different levels in life with the ability to advance ourselves, there are others who have fallen so low with no one who is willing to even consider them. As long as the love of God dwelleth in us we have to consider the poor. By doing so we are helping the Lord. As we remain kind and considerate to the poor we are reflecting Christ. Love on and live on. ❤️❤️❤️
