Not For The Righteous
Good morning
Scripture reading: St. Matthew 9:10-13
Worship song: Run To The Father
Meditation:
The Pharisees criticized Jesus' association with people they deemed undesirable questioning why a religious teacher would dine with the outcast and the marginalized. Jesus frequently dined with these groups to demonstrate that His ministry was intended for the broken, outcasts, sinners, and those in need of spiritual healing. What the Pharisees overlooked was that Jesus' ministry was for sinners and outcasts, not for those who claim to be righteous. Jesus affirms that his ministry offers spiritual healing and repentance to those who acknowledge their need for it.
Three different groups are emphasized: the Publicans, despised
Jewish tax collectors working for Rome and regarded as traitors; the sinners
who broke Jewish moral laws; and the Pharisees, who were self-righteous and
believed they did not need to repent. Jesus used physicians as an example to
emphasize that only those who are sick require medical aid. His mercy extends
to individuals who recognize their faults, sins, and their inability to attain
salvation on their own efforts. He came to heal the brokenhearted and restore
sight to the spiritually blind.
Let us pray:
Emmanuel, our great Physician, we thank you with a grateful
heart for your tender mercies towards us and for the precious gift of
salvation. We relinquish our perceived righteousness to receive your divine
holiness, understanding that our security lies in the unrivaled work of Christ.
We admit that we all have sinned and fallen short of your glory and thereby
acknowledge our need for you, O God, believing that we are saved by your grace.
We magnify you, Lord God, for covering our imperfections with your bountiful
grace. We thank you, Gracious God, for cleansing our hearts and for restoring
our spiritual health. We thank you, Lord God, for healing our broken hearts and
redeeming us from the enemy's stronghold through Jesus Christ's sacrificial
offering. Amen.
Wishing you a day filled with joy. 👐💕🙏
