Trademark of Greatness

Good morning

Scripture reading: St. Matthew 18:1-4

Worship sing: The Greatness of Our God

Meditation:

According to Merriam-Webster, greatness is defined as the quality of being distinguished, or exceptionally skilled, often characterized by superior achievement, impact, or magnitude. It signifies possessing remarkable ability, holding a high rank, or demonstrating outstanding importance, distinction, and influence in a specific field, such as leadership, art, or service. However, from a biblical perspective, the concept of greatness differs from the worldly interpretation.

Jesus teaches that true greatness is exemplified by becoming a servant, distinguished by love, sacrifice, and character, often demonstrated by prioritizing others. The disciples' curiosity led them to enquire who was the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus response likely came as a surprise when he stated that whoever humbles himself as a little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Furthermore, Jesus declared in Matthew 23:11 that service to others elevates one's status. Jesus' demonstration of service to the people was exemplified through selfless humility, focusing on meeting both physical and spiritual needs rather than seeking to be served. His acts included healing the sick, feeding the hungry, teaching the gospel, and washing his disciples' feet, thus setting a fundamental example of servant leadership and devoted love.

Let us pray:

Almighty Redeemer, we thank you for your demonstration of faithful service to your people. I acknowledge my purpose is to serve sacrificially rather than to be served. Humble me in your presence, O Lord, if I exalt myself, bring me to the level you desire for me. Lord, I am available to you; use me continually to impact others. I seek your assistance, Almighty God, to serve with humility, kindness, empathy, and love, understanding that my calling is to serve, not to be served. Grant me the courage to serve diligently, especially amid criticism, discouragement, and fear. Remind me, O God, that my measure is not in success but in my willingness to serve others with humility. May my actions be guided by your wisdom, O God, as I endeavor to serve within the capacity you have called me to. Father, as I serve, help me to do so not to gain human recognition, but in fulfillment of your divine will. I seek your divine strength to bear spiritual fruit and to live a life that honors you, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Wishing you a joyful day. 👏💞🙏
