Follow Me
Good morning
Scripture reading: Luke 9:23-27
Worship song: Let Me Lose Myself
Meditation:
To be followers of Jesus Christ, we must commit ourselves to and be willing to follow his teachings and abide by his commands. Denying oneself is essential in the life of every follower of Jesus Christ. We must decrease so God can take precedence over us. His will is first and foremost in every circumstance, especially when hardship and tribulations arise. Denying ourselves to follow Christ means we must denounce our selfish desires, and pledge allegiance to Him. Denying oneself for Christ is to give up one's wants to receive his. It means surrendering the natural man, your carnal ways, by crucifying your fleshly desires and bringing them under God's subjection.
When
we daily deny self and crucify the flesh, we grow stronger, our faith is
strengthened, and we will become more Christlike. Not only should we deny
ourselves, but we should willingly lay down our lives for the sake of Christ.
Jesus said if we are willing to lose our lives for his sake, we will gain life.
Jesus does not ask us to give up living but to accept a newness and fullness of
life that only He can give. It profits us nothing if we gravitate to the things
of this world. We must be willing to sacrifice our time, rights, position,
comfort, privileges, and even our very lives for the sake of Christ so we can
receive life everlasting.
Let us pray:
Everlasting Father, the giver and sustainer of life, let me
lose myself and find it, Lord, in you. Father, there is nothing in this world
that can satisfy us except we abide in your will, so Lord, slay our fleshly
desires and help us seek after your righteousness. Lord, we willingly sacrifice
the desires that are not in line with your will to access the Tree of
Life. Remove far from us vanity,
wantonness, ungodly desires, self-indulgence, and self-righteousness so we can
focus our attention on you, Lord. Everything that we have clung to, the
appearance of glamour and glitter that appeases the eyes, and the things that
prevent us from giving ourselves over to you, we willingly deny for the sake of
Christ. Lord, we denounce our selfish desires and pledge allegiance to you to
receive newness and the fullness of life that only you can give through Jesus
Christ. Amen.
Peace and love ✌💞🙏
It should not be a difficult decision to follow the Lord but because of the evil in the world, the force brought on by Satan, creating a battle between the spirit and the flesh the war is fought daily. Who wins, he who is properly fed. Trying to meet the requirements to follow the Lord, one should not give up such pursuit because our eternal state hinges on it. Thanks again for words of wisdom. 🙏
