The Purpose of Pain

Meditation:

    We all experience pain at some stage in our lives, whether physical or emotional. It is said that the fundamental purpose of both physical and emotional pain is to ensure survival and protection, serving as a vital alarm system that alerts the brain to actual or potential threats. Pain is an affliction we grapple with, even as we attempt to ignore it or deny its presence. Perhaps your pain is caused by a lingering sickness; broken trust; loss of a loved one; unresolved issues; financial difficulties; poor decision; or a demanding job that is draining your physical strength. While we may not always comprehend the reason behind our pain, every instant of pain serves a purpose. 

    Regardless of the origin of your pain, you can find solace in the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulations. Your current struggles are no match for the amazing future that awaits you, as assured by God’s promise. Revelation 21:4 promises a future where hardships and heartbreaks of this life will completely fade away, replaced by God's comforting presence and an end to all sorrow. We are assured that God stays close to the brokenhearted and rescues those who are crushed in spirit. 1 Peter 5 teaches us that after we suffer for a while, the God of grace will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish us. Do not bear your sorrows alone; cast your burdens on Jesus Christ because He cares for you. 

Let us pray: 

    Jehovah God, I am grateful that Your arms are open wide, ready to comfort those who mourn, those who are broken, the hurting, wounded, and afflicted. Mighty God, I might not understand the purpose or reason behind the pain we endure, but may we find joy amid our struggles and pain. Mighty God, the only God who can restore the brokenhearted, I thank You for all those You have comforted and those You are about to comfort. Mighty God, help us to count it all joy when we endure pain, knowing that the testing of our faith produces perseverance within us. Despite our challenges, may we continue to worship You through our struggles, trials, pain, and brokenness. Draw us closer to You, Almighty God, and assist us to weather every storm through Jesus Christ, our comforter. Amen.

I Have Seen Your Affliction

Good morning. Scripture reading: Exodus 3:1-20 Worship song: His Eyes Are On The Sparrow   Meditation:      After the death of Joseph and the passing of the King of Egypt, a new ruler began to reign who knew not about the role or affairs of Joseph. The new king, Pharaoh, ruled with an iron fist, instructing the taskmasters to afflict the Israelites and forcing them to work under oppression, but their cries did not fall on deaf ears. God heard the Israelites' cries. He knew their sorrows, and he saw their affliction, and he said he came down to deliver them out of the hands of their oppressors. God had revealed to Abraham that his generation would sojourn in a strange land for four hundred years, and there they would undergo great affliction.
