The Power of Spoken Words

Good morning

Scripture reading: Genesis 1:1-2

Worship song: Ancient Words

Meditation:

The old children's rhyme, “ Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words cannot harm me," was first recorded in print in the 19th century. People taught it as a defense mechanism to help kids build resilience, stay calm, and brush off name-calling or verbal bullying. Words are far from harmless. They carry the power to build up or tear down, to heal or wound, and to shape your relationships and futures. The words we speak can train our minds to anticipate and even create the outcome expected. Once we understand the impact of words we can no longer view them as powerless.

Jehovah God revealed the power of words when he spoke creation into existence. God said, Let there be and the element bowed in obedience. God’s word is active and powerful, and cuts sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Our spoken words too carry immense power, shaping lives in ways we may not even realize. Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).

Therefore, let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers (Ephesians 4:29). Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones (Proverbs 16:24). Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man (Colossians 4:6). Always think before speaking due to lasting consequences. If you want to change your expectations, start by changing the language you use.

Let us pray:

Sovereign God, govern our lips, and all that flows from them. Lord, transform our speech today. Replace every negative word with hope, life, and unwavering faith. Turn our thoughts and words toward what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. We trample on the serpent of negativity, criticism, doubt, complaint, and failure. We reject every harmful word spoken against us and strip it of its power. We neutralize every negative word directed towards us, refusing to let it take root or affect us. Almighty God, we declare uncommon favor, abundant blessings, and supernatural provision. We stand on Your word, confident that we will accomplish all You desire of us, and that no negative utterance can hinder Your divine plan. We speak victory over every situation, every setback, failure, and disappointment. In the precious name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Wishing you abundant blessings! 👏🙌🙏

  1. It is said, it is not what people think of you is important but what you think of yourself. While we say yes to that, people evaluation of us can be true and hearing the truth hurts but even then, with the strength of the Lord one can rise above the grade people give us or think about us. We will use every opportunity to let God approve of us and that will be satisfying. 🙏🙏
