Our Daily Bread
Good morning
Scripture reading: Matthew 6:9-11
Worship song: Give Us This Day
Meditation:
Throughout history, bread has been a fundamental food for humanity across diverse cultures. The Israelites, during their journey through the wilderness, were sustained by a miraculous bread from Heaven known as manna. This manna served as their daily bread symbolizing their complete reliance on God. With no other means of survival in the wilderness, they depended entirely on God's provision. Bread is not just food; it is a powerful emblem of physical and spiritual nourishment.
Jesus declared profoundly in St. John 6:33-35 that He is the bread that brings life to the world, assuring us that those who come to Him will never hunger; and those who believe in him shall never thirst. Furthermore, in 1 Corinthians 11:26, we are encouraged to participate in the Lord's supper, partaking of bread and wine, which symbolize the new covenant established with Jesus Christ through his sacrificial offering.
Matthew 6:11 reinforces the assurance that we can confidently rely on Jesus for our daily bread. Acknowledging our dependence on Jesus reflects our spiritual connection to the ultimate source of all our needs. Trusting God expresses total reliance on Him to sustain and provide not just our physical, but our spiritual needs. What is your primary need? Whether the need is spiritual or physical, you can trust God to meet your daily requirements according to his riches in glory.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we express our sincere gratitude for
your continual provision. We give thanks knowing that you are the bread that
sustains the world. Lord, we recognize that you are the source from which our
needs are fulfilled, the fountain of life that abundantly supplies according to
your riches in glory. Almighty God, we understand the significance of trusting
you and acknowledge your wondrous power to provide abundantly, even from
seemingly limited resources. We choose to rely not solely on physical bread,
but to trust you, Lord God, as the bread of life that nourishes us spiritually.
We patiently await your divine guidance, Lord God, and express our heartfelt
appreciation for your unconditional love and loyal commitment to supply all our
needs in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Jesus expressly declared in Matt 4: 4. Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God. While bread is necessary for our every day survival, the bread that have eternal nourishment should not and must not be set aside. Let He dwell in us richly in all wisdom. Let us eat bread. Blessings.
