Desire Takes Advantage of Opportunity
Good morning
Scripture reading: James 4:1-8
Worship song: Empty Me
Meditation:
Our minds are a spiritual battleground where our sinful desires, work of the flesh, constantly conflict with God's will, the fruit of the spirit, a struggle exemplified by the biblical concept of "flesh warring against the spirit". To gain control over our thoughts and prevent fleshly desires from taking root and influencing our actions, we must actively choose to focus on God's word and the Holy Spirit, thereby starving the flesh and empowering the spirit. If we allow our minds to be occupied by fleshly thoughts, those desires are more likely to manifest in our actions.
Whatever desire that receives more attention from our thoughts will
become stronger and more dominant in our lives. Be mindful of the things of the
flesh that war against the spirit and eradicate them from your mind before they
take root. You can control the thoughts that are not conducive to godly living
by limiting your exposure to ungodly content and rejecting negative thought
patterns, thereby weakening the flesh's influence. Our thoughts are the driving
force behind our actions so focus on things that are pure, just, lovely,
honest, and of good report. Take your thoughts captive and renew your mind
through God's word. Follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, and
commune with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, matchless in splendor and majesty I
glorify you, Lord, because you are worthy to be praised. Father, Your Word in
Galatians 5 reveals the constant battle between the flesh and the Spirit.
Strengthen me to overcome ungodly thoughts. Search my heart, O God, and know my
thoughts; lead me away from any harmful way and toward an everlasting path.
Almighty God, when my flesh threatens to dominate the spiritual aspect of my
life and when I am about to yield to temptation empower me, O God, and bring my
thoughts under submission. Help me, O God, to set my mind on things that are of
good report, that are honest, pure, and lovely. Father, I submit my earthly
imperfections and the sins that so easily entangle me to your authority. I
submit my ways and thoughts to you, O God. Pull down every stronghold, cast
down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge
of You, O God. Lead, guide, and protect my mind, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
