The Mourning Processions

Meditation:

    Grieving the loss of a loved one can be one of the most painful experiences you will ever have to endure. Having to lay a loved one to rest, especially someone young, vibrant, kind, loving, trustworthy, and adorable, can leave you shattered and devastated. One can only imagine the emotional impact and sorrow experienced by the widow, who lost not only her husband, but also her only son. 

    The procession was no doubt a very mournful one as the widow bemoaned her only son while trying desperately to cope with the heart-rending impact of a tragic loss. She was accompanied by many supporters on her on her gloomy, mournful journey. Her mourning must have been thundering, for it caught the attention of Jesus, who came into the town of Nain with his followers just as the procession proceeded to the burial site. Jesus felt a flood of compassion for the grieving widow and interrupted the proceedings. An uproar of shouts of joy burst through the atmosphere as the mourners rejoiced, for he who was dead came alive with just one touch from Jesus. The burial was subsequently canceled, and victory triumphed over death and the grave. 

Let us pray:

    Everlasting Father, our Redeemer and Savior, Jesus Christ, You are exalted in all the earth. Name above all names, I worship You and give You all the glory. Almighty God, with a grateful heart I thank You, O God, for Your everlasting, unconditional love and Your unwavering compassion. Thank You, Lord, for comforting the broken-hearted, for restoring hope to the hopeless, and granting freedom to those who are bound. There is none as great and powerful as You, Almighty God, and therefore, I call upon You to strengthen our faith and grant us victory over every challenge we encounter. Almighty God, as we mourn the earthly treasures to which we have been so attached, and as we confess our sins and iniquities beneath the fountain of Your blood, may we find solace in the knowledge that what we have gained is more valuable than what we leave behind. Father, we thank You for the blood applied through Jesus Christ. Amen.
