If/Then Conditions

Good morning Scripture Reading: Exodus 19:5 Worship Song: “What If”   Meditation:       If-then statements reveal a profound connection between our choices and God’s responses. Throughout Scripture, God’s Word establishes clear “if/then” principles: when we faithfully carry out our responsibilities, He opens the windows of heaven and pours out His blessings. Exodus 19:5 tells us that "if we obey His voice and keep His commandments, then He will welcome us into a covenant relationship with Him."       2 Chronicles 7:14 offers another clear principle: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." God’s unwavering love and His gift of salvation through grace are unconditional. When we fall short, the Scriptures offer the reassurance that if we confess our sins, He is fa...

Good morning Scripture reading: St. Luke 19:1-10 Hymn: Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul   Meditation:      Zacchaeus is portrayed as a wealthy chief tax collector among the publicans, who desired to see Jesus Christ. Although he was physically wealthy, he was spiritually bankrupt. He must have experienced an inner void that prompted him to seek spiritual refuge. A multitude had assembled, waiting to see Jesus, but Zacchaeus, who was short in stature, made his way through the crowd. Onlookers may have ridiculed him as he climbed a tree to see Jesus, but he did not care, for he knew he was broken inside.           After Zacchaeus communed with Jesus Christ, his perspective on life changed. In response to Jesus's offer of salvation, Zacchaeus promised to give half of his wealth to the poor and repay four times the amount he had acquired through fraud. Zacchaeus sincerely sought Jesus because he desired a profound change in his life, a...

Something Is Lacking

Good morning Scripture Reading: Mark 10:17-22 Worship Song: Treasures in Heaven   Meditation:      Today's lesson reflects on the story of a rich man who came to Jesus, sincerely seeking to know what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. When Jesus told him what was required, the man walked away sorrowful, unwilling to part with the riches he cherished, which stood in the way of following Jesus. When faced with a choice between his riches and Jesus, he chose his riches. It was not his wealth itself that prevented him from being saved, but rather the place it held in his heart. His wealth had become an idol.       This example clearly demonstrates that whatever we are unwilling to surrender for the sake of Christ has become an idol. Following Jesus requires the unconditional surrender of our personal will, pride, and earthly possessions to Him, and placing Him above all we earn and accomplish. A person can be rich or poor and yet be wh...
