Something Is Lacking

Good morning

Scripture Reading: Mark 10:17-22

Worship Song: Treasures in Heaven

Meditation:

Today's lesson reflects on the story of a rich man who came to Jesus, sincerely seeking to know what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. When Jesus told him what was required, the man walked away sorrowful, unwilling to part with the riches he cherished, which stood in the way of following Jesus. When faced with a choice between his riches and Jesus, he chose his riches. It was not his wealth itself that prevented him from being saved, but rather the place it held in his heart. His wealth had become an idol.

This example clearly demonstrates that whatever we are unwilling to surrender for the sake of Christ has become an idol. Following Jesus requires the unconditional surrender of our personal will, pride, and earthly possessions to Him, and placing Him above all we earn and accomplish. A person can be rich or poor and yet be wholly devoted to Christ. Likewise, a person can be rich or poor and still forsake a devoted relationship with Christ.

What might we need to release as we seek eternal life? Where our treasures are, there our hearts will be also. Jesus' disciples left everything to follow Him. If we are His disciples, we must do likewise.

Let us pray:

Almighty God, You know the depths of our hearts. You know what we treasure and what we refuse to surrender. This morning, we lay before You every idol we have established in our hearts, knowingly or unknowingly. We surrender these barriers to our spiritual growth and ask You to restore our wholehearted devotion to You. Remove the idols we cling to so tightly that they prevent us from following You with undivided hearts. Lord, we place our relationship with You above all worldly comfort, status, and security. We acknowledge, Lord, that our many earthly possessions cannot be compared with Your immeasurable worth or the treasure You have stored up for us. Show us, Lord, what it truly means to follow You. Remove our self-righteousness and clothe us in Your righteousness. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Keep safe. Shalom. ✌💕🙏
