Who Are Your Advisors?

Meditation:

    When King Ahasuerus promoted Haman and set him above all the princes with him, all the servants at the king's gate bowed in reverence to Haman except Mordecai (Esther 3:1-2). Haman tried everything to persuade Mordecai to bow before him but failed, and therefore he despised him. Consumed by his hatred, Haman sought ways to destroy Mordecai and all the Jews (vs 4-6). He was so consumed by hatred and desire to destroy Mordecai that he listened to the advice of those whose hearts were just as evil as his (7-15). Misery loves company, but evil counsel breeds destruction. 

    Haman's conspiracy against Mordecai took a dramatic turn. Instead of destroying Mordecai, Mordecai was honored. The classic lyrics from Bob Marley's song "Small Axe" are rooted in the wisdom of Proverbs 26 and illustrate the inevitable self-destruction of those who dig a pit for others but fall into it themselves. 

    His story serves as a reminder that practicing iniquity to chase fleeting vanity is futile. When your heart is filled with rage and resentment, seeking advice from someone equally cold and callous will only seal your downfall. You cannot overcome evil with evil, but with good. A good advisor offers constructive insights that drive smart decision-making. Choose who you take advice from very carefully.

Let us pray:

    Heavenly Father, I praise You, O God, because You are truly worthy of all praise. I ask, O God, that You protect us from being blinded by hatred, anger, wrath, and bitterness that can cause us to entertain wicked thoughts. Please replace our stony hearts with hearts full of compassion, love, kindness, and empathy. Help us, O God, to forgive those who have wronged us instead of plotting and scheming against them. Lord, You wish for all of us to turn to You and find life rather than perish. I ask that You wash us thoroughly, refining every part of our being. Cleanse us, God, until we are fully transformed and completely Yours. Assist us to seek wise counsellors and advisors, who will guide our steps in absolute truth and sound doctrines. Heavenly Father, cancel every negative declaration or hidden plot meant to limit our future. Let every hidden plot against our destiny be exposed and rendered null and void. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.

Often, our potential is hindered by the barriers of negative thoughts. Stepping into unfamiliar territory can feel overwhelming and frightening.
