Betrayed With a Kiss

Good morning

Scripture reading: Mark 14: 40-46

Worship song: Man of Sorrows

Meditation:

Greet or salute one another with a "holy kiss," mentioned in the New Testament, was embraced among early believers, signifying acceptance, unity, and brotherly love. It was a way to show they were part of the same spiritual family and that God's love was present among them. However, the Bible also portrays kisses used in deceit and treachery, like Judas's kiss of betrayal. Judas was handpicked by Jesus as one of His twelve disciples at the beginning of his ministry. Judas witnessed Jesus perform miracles and listened to His teachings, but his mind was not transformed. Judas's focus shifted to his desire for material wealth, demonstrating his hunger for earthly gain over spiritual wealth.

Judas had arranged with the soldiers that the man he would kiss was the one to be arrested. His betrayal highlights that being a loyal believer is not just participating or associating with others, it requires inner transformation. We may not betray Christ with a kiss, but by refusing to accept him as our Lord and Saviour, rejecting his teachings, and disobeying his commandments, we have betrayed him. We betray Christ by walking in ways contrary to his law and allowing ungodly desires to creep into our hearts. We betray Christ when we deliberately separate ourselves from him to live according to our desires.

Let us pray:

Merciful, wonderful Saviour, blessed redeemer and friend, we surrender to you, our heart and life as a living sacrifice. Lord, I get emotional each time I think about the many years we spent in pride and vanity, caring not that you were crucified for our sins. Lord, we repent of the many times we have denied and betrayed you by refusing to abide by your laws and precepts. We repent for choosing to walk contrary to your will. We affirm that you are the true Saviour and are running back to you, Lord God, with confidence and assurance that by your grace our sins are forgiven, our hearts are made new, and our minds are transformed. Amen.

Wishing you a fantastic day. 💓🙏
