Temporary Gain, Eternal Loss
Good morning
Scripture reading: Matthew 16:24-27
Worship song: What Shall I Render
Meditation:
Speaking to the disciples, Jesus asked, 'What is the point of having everything you want in this life if you lose your soul in the process? Jesus urges followers to prioritize eternal values over earthly gain, noting that what a person treasures the most reveals the true condition of the heart. St. Matthew 6:19-22 teaches that earthly possessions are temporal and exposed to destruction, while spiritual, heavenly investments are secure and eternal. The things which are seen and are held dearly are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Since life is a fleeting moment and
earthly treasures are temporary, we must set our hearts on things that have
everlasting value. This is grounds for us to look beyond the temporary, realign
our focus on that which is permanent. Let your heart be governed by eternal
purposes, not by temporary distractions. Maximize your God-given purpose
through a life of spiritual focus, commitment, and sincere service to God. Do
not trade your eternal life for earthly possessions and successes that are
temporary. Don't fix your eyes on what is temporary; focus on what is
everlasting. Rather than wasting energy on accumulating material goods that do
not last, focus on nurturing that which is permanent. Exchange temporal pleasure
for the fountain of everlasting life.
Let us pray:
Almighty God, I acknowledge and embrace this day as a gift
designed by your power. I choose to rejoice and be glad in it. I count it all
joy to trade all my temporary, earthly possessions for your eternal, heavenly
treasures. Almighty God, keep my soul safely hidden in Christ, ensuring I stand
firm against every storm. Father, keep my feet firmly rooted and grounded, and
let me be firmly established, never to drift from your presence. I want to
know you more, O God. I want to maximize my God-given potential and sincerely
serve you with all my heart. Realign my heart to your will, O God, and fix my
eyes on things eternal. Almighty God, I exchange that which is temporal for the
fountain of everlasting life. Keep me near the cross, O God, that I may never
stray so far that I cannot see what you have appointed for me. God you know
everything best for me so I am surrendering my whole heart to you, O God,
giving you legal rights and authority over my well-being in the name of Jesus
Christ. Amen.
Wishing you a peaceful day. ✌💕🙏
